CHANDIGARH, May 31: A three-month-old girl, left unattended by her mother outside her house, was crushed to death by a speeding four-wheeler in Indira Colony in Manimajra last evening.The infant's mother, Raj Rani, said in a statement made before the police that she had left the baby with her seven-year-old son Neeraj and gone to a meat shop in the nearby Mariwala town. "When I was on my way back home, I saw this speeding four-wheeler, a Trax (HR-01-E-1540) come and run over my daughter. I rushed and picked her up but she had already died," the woman added in her complaint.
The woman told the police that her husband, Sajjan Rang, who works as a painter, had been out of town for over a fortnight and she had no one except her son to entrust her daughter to when she went out.
The police have arrested the driver of the vehicle, Gulshan Kumar, a resident of Burail village. He was booked under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC, for causing death due to negligence.
In another incident, a middle-aged man died after falling from the third floor of a house in Panchkula's Sector 9 today. Rajinder Kumar, a resident of Roopnagar district, who was living alone, died on the spot when he fell down from the third floor of house number 650. A post-mortem was conducted and the body was taken handed to the parents of the deceased.
