UTRECHT, June 1: Shahbaz Ahmed, one of the greatest player in recent times, was still undecided over his future as he expressed disappointment at Pakistan finishing fifth in the men's World Cup hockey tournament, that concluded here on Monday."I would have been a happy man had Pakistan at least qualified for the semi-finals. But we had plenty of problems, notably injuries to myself, Shahbaz Jr, Tahir Zaman and Imran Tariq. Missed chances also cost us a higher ranking," said Shahbaz in a chat with The Indian Express, immediately after his team beat England in the play-offs.
In between signing autographs and answering calls on his mobile phone, Shahbaz said, "I had thrice announced my retirement and each time, I came back. So, this time, I am not sure what to say or do. I will decide about my future shortly. I would have liked to retire on a successful note. But life is like that and I have to accept the reality."
Shahbaz, suffering from a back injury which was aggravated during the pool gameagainst Australia last week, did not play either the classification game or the play-off today. It would the most disappointing end to a glorious career.
