Spate of thefts
Cash and ornaments collectively worth Rs 60,000 were stolen in four separate thefts in the city since Sunday.

The thefts were reported from Maharshinagar, Warje Malwadi, Hadapsar and Pune-Satara Road areas, police said

.Three teenaged youths have been arrested by the Swargate police on the charge of stealing a tape recorder fitted in the car of Mukund Mahajan at Maharshinagar.

Police said Milind Bhalerao (19), Mahesh Sakat (18) and Umesh Bhise (19) (all from Maharshinagar) stole the tape recorder from Mahajan's car on May 30 night.

Cash and ornaments worth Rs 99,700, were stolen from the residence of Rishikesh K Bhagvat at Vaishali Heights building at Hadapsar. A complaint lodged with the Wanowrie police said the unidentified culprits forced entry into Bhagvat's flat by breaking its padlock with a crowbar and stole ornaments estimated at 96,700 and Rs 3,000 in cash.

Surekha Surendra Jayswal from Mumbai, who had come here to attend a wedding, was relieved of her carry bag containing cash and ornaments worth Rs 40,000 at a marriage hall on Pune-Satara Road, a complaint lodged with the Swargate police said.

Cash and ornaments worth Rs 17,990 were stolen from the residence of Mangal N Ghogare at Warje Malwadi, a complaint lodged with the Kothrud police said.

2 Suicides
Sangita Vasant Shinde, a 30-year-old housewife residing at Bibvewadi, committed suicide by setting herself afire at her residence on Monday morning. The reasons as to why Sangita took the drastic decision were not known till late in the evening, Sahakarnagar police said.

Ashok Vitthal Dhage (35) of Katraj committed suicide by hanging himself with a makeshift noose at his residence Sunday night. Dhage's relatives who woke up around 6.30 am found him hanging from the ceiling. The reasons behind Dhage's suicide were not known till late in the evening, police said.
