Retired Lt Col held on kidnap charge

CHANDIGARH, June 1: The city police have arrested a retired Army officer on the charge of forcibly abducting a resident of Sector 49, with the help of two other men, and taking him away to a village in Kharar.

Lt Col Amrik Singh Sahota (Retd), a resident of Packi Rurki village, had reportedly kidnapped Ram Singh, employed at a dairy in Sector 49. The victim's brother, in a complaint to the police on Saturday, said that Sahota along with two others came to the dairy in a jeep (PB-65-1818), beat up his brother and abducted him.

The police have registered a case of abduction. A police party went to the accused's house and he was arrested last night, an official said.He was produced before Judicial Magistrate (I Class) A.K. Bishnoi today and remanded to judicial custody till June 12.
