Govt considering full statehood for Delhi: Advani

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, June 3: The Government is actively considering granting full statehood to Delhi, the Rajya Sabha was told today. ``The matter is under active consideration of the government,'' Home Minister L.K. Advani said.

The Delhi government has asked the Centre to scrap the provision for reservation for scheduled tribes for employment in the Capital since no tribe has been notified scheduled till now, the Home Minister told the House.A decision on the issue has been deferred due to a review petition filed by the Union government in the Supreme Court in a similar case regarding Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

However, the city government is now seeking permission to appoint a Commission to prepare a list of scheduled tribes for Delhi, Advani said.
