MUMBAI, June 9: Santosh Shinde's brilliant performance under the bar could not rescue Income-Tax (IT) against Bank of India (BoI) in a Gulf Lubricant WIFA Super Division football match at Cooperage today. BoI won 2-1.Shinde appeared at his best in the dying minutes for at least half a dozen saves. But his excellent show could not provide the much needed thrust to his team to bring the equaliser. BoI's new recruit Basir Hussain put the Bankmen ahead in the 36th minute when he dribbled past I-T defenders and bulged the net with a powerful right foot shot. Baptist Lobo, I-T striker, brought out equaliser in the 74th minute. Lobo placed his left-foot lob over the goalkeeper on a diagonal pass from Clifford Pereira.
BoI came back strongly to lead again in the 83th minute when Anton Saldanha found the net on a low cross from Hussain. In an earlier first division match, New India Insurance (NII) defeated Punjab National Bank (PNB) 5-2.
NII were leading 2-0 at half-time. For winners, Dharmender Baria scored ahat-trick while Conrad D'Rozario and Placidus Diaz scored a goal each. For PNB, Vinod D'Souza and Prasad Putran found the net.
