He was 87.Ziauddin, also a noted educationist, was the former president and life member of the All-India Football Federation (AIFF). He was also a former honorary secretary of the Western India Football Association (WIFA).

Ziauddin was actively involved in school sports in the city and as principal of Ajuman-e-Islam High School, housed the Bombay School Sports Athletic Association (BSAA) offices for almost twenty years from 1950.

Ziauddin's involvement with WIFA coincided with the rise of football in Mumbai which produced teams like Tatas, Mafatlal and Orkay Mills that established the city on the national soccer map. He was last involved with the running of the local body, WIFA in 1986.

WIFA have cancelled matches at the Cooperage, scheduled to be held tomorrow, as a mark of respect.

Squash player moves HC

Leading local junior player Saket Wali todayfiled a writ petition in the High Court against Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) and Squash Rackets Association of Maharashtra (SRAM) for denying him a place in the recent selection trial for the Junior World Cup. Wali had earlier served a show cause notice which was ignored by both the sports bodies. Saket felt his ranking and performance throughout the year demanded a call for the just concluded camp here and stated that by not including him in the Indian team probables both the parties have done injustice to him. The case is likely to come for hearing next week. The World Cup will take place in United States of America in August.
