Disconnecting Cong phones, a routine job: MTNL chief
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, June 18: The Chairman and Managing Director of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited , S Rajagopal, has said that the Communications Minister, Sushma Swaraj, had no hand in the move to cut telephone lines of the Congress party at New Delhi recently. The action was a routine exercise of the department, he has explained.Reacting to a news report in The Indian Express, (Party's over: MTNL snaps Cong headquarters telephone lines, June 15), Rajagopalan said: "The minister is nowhere in the picture of these disconnections. These are normal things that happen in any organisation. But it has been wrongly reported as if the minister has given the order for disconnection. I totally deny this," he said referring to the report which said the department took the minister's sanction before snapping the lines. "As part of our collection drive in the last few months, we have been trying to improve our outstandings. So no party has been singled out. It is an ongoing process and I think that it gives animpression as if we have singled out a particular party for disconnections. It is unfair and it is not true," he said.
