MUMBAI, JUNE 18: State Advocate General C J Sawant has assured the Bombay High Court that the B N Srikrishna Commission report on the Mumbai riots will be placed on both the floors of the state legislature on July 20, the first day of the monsoon session. The Advocate General made the statement before the division bench of Justice B P Saraf and Justice A Y Sakhare, in response to a notice by the Bombay Aman Committee's advocate Saeed Kadu urging the court to direct the government to make the report public. Interestingly, although the matter was not on the court's serial board, since the division bench inquired about the report, the AG gave this assurance.
Earlier, Sawant had stated the report would be made public either within six months or when the Marathi translation and Action Taken Report was ready, whichever was earlier. With the six month deadline nearing an end and the Marathi translation ready, the English and Marathi versions of the reports will be tabled on July 20, Sawant informed.
In thelast session of the state legislature, the opposition parties had accused that the state government was delaying tabling of the report fearing that it would indict the ruling party members. Chief Minister Manohar Joshi, however, said the accusation was false.
