Move to check spread of diseases control

CHANDIGARH, June 18: Punjab's civil surgeons met here today to chalk out a special state-wide campaign to prevent outbreak of water-borne diseases such as cholera, malaria and gastro-enterititis. Presiding over the meeting, Punjab Health Minister, Manoranjan Kalia, directed officers to take steps well in time, stressing the need to educate people.

He also ordered civil surgeons to personally conduct checks in their areas to detect sale of unhygienic foods and supply of unsafe drinking water. The minister also instructed civil surgeons to ascertain the state of medical equipment in institutions under their charge and see to it that defective equipment was either repaired or replaced.

He announced that a visiting committee would be constituted for every government hospital which would make suggestions for improving hospital functioning. He called for appointment of lady emergency medical officers to be present in the hospitals at night.
