EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Italy win battle of hot tempers
Luigi Di Biagio scored his first goal for his country and Christian Vieri struck twice as Italy beat 10-man Cameroon 3-0 tonight to break the deadlock in World Cup Group B. Vieri's goals came in the last 15 minutes against a Cameroon side who played the whole of the second half with 10 men after defender Raymond Kalla was sent off for a vicious 43rd minute late challenge on Di Biagio.

Super Eagles
Nigeria, on a high after beating Spain 3-2 in their opening match, refuse to countenance defeat in tomorrow's World Cup game against Bulgaria. Victory at the Parc Des Princes would take the Olympic champions through to the second round for the second successive finals.

Spain keen
Spain are desperate to make amends for their shock 3-2 defeat by Nigeria and plan to make Paraguay pay dearly for that disaster in Friday's Group D match.

India-Lanka tie
At the start of each One Day tournament nowadays you hear how at least one team is ``fine-tuning'' for the 1999 World Cup. Rest assured the smart players allot only enough time to give a passing thought to that far off event before the bulk of their concentration is focused on the trophy within reach.

Anand wins
Indian Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand coming back from a break in his hometown, Chennai, scored an excellent win over world's highest rated player Garry Kasparov in the second round of the Siemens Nixdorf Giants tournament late last night.

Steffi Graf loses
Steffi Graf's preparations for her Wimbledon comeback took a wrong turn today when she was beaten by Russian teenager Anna Kournikova in an uncharacteristically bad-tempered match at the Eastbourne Grass-Court tournament.
