SURAT, June 18: After a gap of four years, the city will host the 12th National Powerlifting Championship. The three-day championship, to begin from 19, will be inaugurated by Surat Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan. The Surat District Powerlifting Association had hosted the 8th National Powerlifting Championship in 1994.
Talking to reporters here on Thursday, secretary of the Surat District Powerlifting Association Narendra Gandhi said in all 23 teams from Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh will participate in the contest.
Union Textile Minister Kashiram Rana will be present on the concluding day of the competition on June 21. State Water Minister Narottam Patel and newly appointed SUDA Chairman Arvind Godiwala will also be present on the occasion, Gandhi said.
