DMK MLA's teenaged son stabbed to death in house

MADURAI, JUNE 21: Kumar alias Senthil Kumar (17), son of ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) legislator Velusamy was allegedly murdered by unidentified persons at his residence in Indira Nagar here in the wee hours of today. Velusamy was elected MLA from Madurai East constituency.

According to police, the deceased who was a college student was fast asleep in the ground floor of the house. When Velusamy came down, he saw Kumar lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the government Rajaji hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The body was later brought to the residence after post mortem. Medical reports stated that there were three stab injuries in the body. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service. Preliminary investigations revealed that the crime could have been committed between 3 am and 6 am.

City Police Commissioner P L Viswanathan said that four people were detained for interrogation in connection with the killing. A police team was sent to Ramanathapuram district tonab two more suspects. However, the motive behind the murder was not known immediately. Heavy police pickets have been posted in sensitive points in the city. Many shops in some parts of the city had downed shutters. Two special teams have been formed to nab the assailants. Keerathurai police have registered a case.

Meanwhile, state Ministers Ponmudi, Selvaraj, Mayor P Kulandaivelu, Deputy Mayor M Pandian, District Collector A M Kasiviswanathan and other leaders expressed their shock and sympathy to the MLA at the hospital.
