CHANDIGARH, June 21: Bhupinder Singh, braved the heat-humidity as well as PGI XI's bowling to score a magnificent century and set up an imposing 67 run win for Fighter XI over their opponents in the third CNS Trophy cricket tournament here today.Tari Club registered an eight- wicket win over CNS XI in the second match of the day.
Bhupinder Singh faced 82 balls and hit six fours and two sixes in his knock of 100. His was a chanceless effort and did not flinch at any stage.
Dehydration, more than anything else, proved to be his wicket taker ultimately. Fighter XI batsmen were on a mid-day revelry, though under difficult weather conditions. Apart from Bhupinder, skipper Anil Kapoor (37) and Manoj Rajan (35) set up the run tone. Fighter XI's score of 231 in 35 overs was always going to be difficult for PGI XI but they were off to a blitzkrieg start.
Opener Rajinder (37) and Amit Bhardwaj (44) looked like running away with the game but off spinner H S Sodhi, cut short whatever hopes they fancied by accounting for both in a fine spell. Later, Vikrant Gupta brought curtains to PGI XI's innings by running through their middle order.
Tari Club owed their win to allrounder Aman Kumar. He captured 3 for 30 with his off spinners and then played an unbeaten knock of 56 to ensure his side's win.
Earlier, CNS XI were bundled out for 159. Aman, Madan Lal (2 for 38) and Sandeep Sonu (2 for 20) were the chief destructions.
CNS XI's opener Rakesh Varma (63) stood at one end but could not gather the required support from his teammates.
