CHENNAI, June 23: Advocates of the Madras High Court Advocates' Association (MHAA) observed a total boycott of courts on Tuesday.The MHAA, which had given the call for boycott, will hold a general body meeting on Wednesday to decide the future course of action. The developments include dismissal of the anticipatory bail application of Sub Inspector JCN Jafi and head constable Mariappan by the Principal Sessions Judge on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a group of advocates began an indefinite fast till the arrest of the SI and head constable. The MHAA at a meeting yesterday had decided to resume the boycott from today.
Meanwhile, the policemen have challenged the dismissal of their anticipatory bail applications by the PSJ R S Banumathy in the Madras High Court. The advocates who commenced the boycott on June 15 suspended the agitation from June 18 after the court directed the trial court to issue non-bailable warrants to the policemen. An advocate claimed 200 MHAA members were in favour of advocates resuming theirlegal obligations to the public.
