BMFC trounce I-T

MUMBAI, June 25: Bengal Mumbai Football Club (BMFC) scored an convincing 5-0 win over Income Tax in a Gulf Lubricant WIFA Super Division League match here at Cooperage today.

After a slow start, BMFC drew first blood in the 16th minute when mid-fielder Abdul Latif Seriki's placed his header to the right of Santosh Shinde, I-T custodian. Medio James Singh essayed the attack and passed it to Suresh Singh, who curled the ball to Seriki on the goal mouth. And Seriki did rest.

Despite constant attacks, BMFC could not add to the tally in the first-half.In the 55th minute, James's powerful shot from close range went straight in the goal. Suresh initiated the move as his cross was back-headed by Sanjib Shaikh, playing for the first time for his club. He set the ball up for James to do the rest.

BMFC coach Jamshed Nassiri brought in three changes later in the second half, bringing in another three goals.

Substitute Herbert Philip scored first of his two in the 75th minute when Sanjib laid down a through ballto him. Philip dribbled past a couple of defenders and placed his shot to the left of Shinde.

A minute later, he added another when another substitute international Gurinder Pal Singh put him a defence splitting pass and Philip's powerful shot went to the right of Shinde, I-T 'keeper. Gurinder Pal Singh was instrumental in the last goal of his team also as he sent a low cross at goalmouth. Striker Sanjib exhibited exceptional skills as he back healed the cross on the first post. His delicate touch went in as Shinde could not move due to heavy ground conditions near the goal area.

Sangam through

Vijay Sangam fought to a 11-25, 16-14, 29-0 win over Vinod Parghi in the KUC 36th Open District Ranking carrom tournament first round at the Kshatriya Union Club today.
