VMC, GEB offices closed today
The offices of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) will remain closed on Friday, on the occasion of rathyatra. The holiday has been declared under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act. All the departments of the VMC, including Gas and Schools, will remain closed. However, those connected with essential services will remain open. Instead of Friday, employees of both the VMC and the GEB will work on July 11, second Saturday.

MSU stays open
All faculties and offices of the M S University will remain open for the whole day on July 11, as the varsity is closed on Friday. Meetings and entrance examinations scheduled for Friday, however, will be held as planned. The staff could later exchange their leave for the same, stated MSU's In-charge Registrar Pratibha Desai on Thursday.

MSW forms
Friday is the last day to submit forms for the Masters in Social Work, M S University. The forms will be accepted 11 am onwards. The interview for temporary lecturers will also be held on the same day. The Faculty will remain open despite the declared holiday, according to Faculty Dean Anil Navale.

Safety record
Gujarat Refinery has created a new record in industrial safety by completing 1,000 days without any major accident. And to mark the occasion, said an official release, a function was organised on Wednesday. Addressing the gathering, refinery executive director P S Rao praised the dedication and commitment of the employees for maintaining higher standards of safety. ``In an industry like petroleum refinery, where we have to work with volatile products and high temperature and pressure, it is necessary to give utmost priority to safety'', said Rao. He exhorted the employees to keep the safety norms higher. He also released a poster on safety on the occasion and informed the gathering that a number of new facilities were being created in the refinery to provide additional hi-tech safety cover.

Anti-drug day
Over 20 drug addicts undergoing treatment at the S C Patel De-addiction Centre in Nizampura will plant saplings around the Centre premises on Friday to mark the World Anti-Drug Day. The patients will also adopt the saplings planted by them and undertake their upkeep, a Centre press release stated on Thursday.
