The incident occurred on June 24. The raid was conducted following orders by a Mumbai court. A case had been filed in the court by a local businessman there alleging trademark violation by his erstwhile business partner in Delhi -- Vinod Kumar of the `Topaz'brand of razor blades. Following the court order,a team from the Crime Branch of the Mumbai police arrived in Delhi to conduct the raid in Sadar Bazar. For this they took the help of the local police.

During the course of the raid, other traders from nearby shops also gathered and began to protest against the raid. One of those present was the president of the local traders association, Raj Narayan Kalra.

Traders allege that because of their protests, police turned violent and began to assault the traders. They say that one of those assaulted was Kalra as a result of which he suffered a heart attack and fell down. He was rushed to St. Stephen's hospital where he died.

Police deny that any force was used. ``While the raid was being conducted, Kalra, who was one of the traders present and arguing with the police team experienced a fit of coughing and had a sudden heart attack. He collapsed and was rushed to hospital where he died. But there was no violence used at all by the police,'' said DCP (North) S.N. Shrivastav. He alleged that the traders were deliberately making an issue out of the matter.
