PRESS TRUST INDIA
NEW DELHI, June 28: Multinationals, Asea Brown Boweri (ABB) and General Electric (GE) are in race for the Rs 2,000 crore engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Enron's 1,444 mw Dabhol phase-II project.

When contacted, managing director of Enron (India operations), Sanjay Bhatnagar said the final EPC contractor would be selected very soon. Of the six multinationals which had earlier bid for the project, Enron has shortlisted two and would be selecting one company to be its EPC contractor.

The other four multinationals which had bid for the project include Siemens, GEC Alsthom, Mitsubishi, and Westinghouse, sources add. The $ 1.8 billion Dabhol phase-II power project would be based on LNG, and Enron proposes to import about five million tonnes of the liquified petroleum product from Qatar Gas and Petroleum Corporation.
