VADODARA, June 28: The ONGC Colony was a buzz with election activities for the post of the president of the Employees Welfare Committee, for the term 1998-2000. Three candidates were in the fray for the coveted post, polling for which was held on June 23 at the Regional Office, Vadodara. Anil Rajput, a personnel of the Geophysical Field Parties won the contest by a margin of 57 votes, while M B Chhetri, Mahendra Patel, J d Landge, Ravi Pathak, S H Chauhan and U M Mahant were elected unopposed as the executive members.Meanwhile, ONGC's Ahmedabad project won the safety Championship Trophy for the best over-all performance. The trophy was given away at the 21st Safety Week Valedictory Function held on June 23 at the Officers' Club, ONGC, Vadodara. The prizes for the best drilling rig went to Cardwell VII, Ahmedabad, best CTF award was bagged by CTF Mehsana, Group Gathering Station - 3 of Ankleshwar won the best production installation award. The best work over Rig Prize went to CW-100-V, Ahmedabad, while Mehsana was adjudged the best residential colony in Western Region. The project with the lowest frequency of accident rate went to Ahmedabad and the best Health Centre prize was won by the City Dispensary, Narainpura, Ahmedabad.
Prizes for the best entries for safety and environment posters, slogans in Hindi, Gujarati and English and cartoons were also distributed at the end of the function.
ONGC residents association, Eastern Chapter, Vadodara for the first time organised a get-together function sneh milan on June 28. Senior ONGC officers also graced the function.
It may be noted that the ONGC employees association is a heterogeneous group including officers and staff, residing in the eastern part of Vadodara including Panigate, Waghodia Road, and Ajwa Road.
As per the directives of Jahari La, Director (Personnel), a six-day training programme for familiarising and encouraging the use of Hindi in computer programming was conducted by the Training Division of Vadodara.
The Bharatiya Sanskriti Sanshthan, Delhi formulated the training programme, which was attended by 23 employees of ONGC from various departments of the Western Region.
The programme, the first of its kind in ONGC, was formally inaugurated by K G Gupta, Group General Manager (P&A) on June 22.
Also N Lal, Executive Director of ONGC, WRBC, performed the bhoomipujan at Balol Group gathering Station-II recently. Among others, C Lal, Project Head of Mehsana, Dr P S V Rao, in-charge of E&C division and other senior officials of Vadodara and Mehsana were present on the occasion.
This customary function marked the modification and upgradation works of installations namely Group Gathering Station-II, III, IV in Balol near Mehsana. This Project is a part of the In-Situ Combustion Project, Balol (Main) sanctioned at a cost of Rs 118.49 crores.
This project was conceptualised and is being implemented by the Engineering and Construction Division of ONGC, Vadodara in co-ordination with Mehsana Project.
A K Chakrabarti, Deputy Controller and Auditor General of India cum Chairman Audit Board visited ONGC, Vadodara on June 25 to review the activities of the Western Regional Business Centre. He met Executive Director of the region, N Lal and the project heads and business group heads of the region. R C Tomar, Chief Auditor of the Region was also present at the meeting. Chakrabarti was also apprised about the various developmental and financial programmes of the Western Region, specifically the Gandhar field.
