Man gets 4 yrs' imprisonment for starving daughters
AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE
TOKYO, June 29: A Japanese father who starved his two baby daughters for weeks until one died, feeding them at the most one slice of bread every two days, was sentenced to four years of imprisonment by the judge on Monday. The 26-year-old jobless man from central Japan, Kimihide Yano, inflicted ``unbearable agony'' on the children, said presiding Judge Morikatsu Tomita at Nagoya District Court. The father was arrested in March for starving the daughters, aged one and two years, until the eldest died. His wife had left the home in early February with their two sons to live with her mother. Yano told the police that he was tired of taking care of his daughters as he was not used to looking after the kids. The judge while announcing the judgment said there was ``no room for sympathy'' for Yano's crime. Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
