The students were earlier vide sec 4 1 5 allowed to make only three choices The division bench comprising Mr Justice N P Chapalgaonkar and Mr Justice Maralappaley has asked the director of technical education,( the competent authority for admission to engineering courses ) to publish fresh dates and details of the admission process in all major newspapers on July 3, incorporating all the changes which will occur as a result of the court order.

The bench has stated in its order that students should be given a week's time to make necessary changes in the applications between July 6 and July 12. "Students will now have the option of (i) filling up allthe nine choices (ii) making changes in their original choices for the 30 per cent seats or (iii) letting their original application remain as it is, if they so desire," the bench said. The bench has in a significant move directed the DTE that the 10 per cent of surplus seats admitted to chemical engineering and B.Arch, at all govt and govt aided colleges, including the university dept of chemical technology,Mumbai, should be reserved for students from the five university areas of Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathawada University,(Aurangabad). Swami Ramanand Teerth Marthwada University (Jalgaon), and Amravati University (Amravati) in view of the fact that there are no govt.colleges in these areas imparting these courses.

The bench which was hearing a bunch of public interest litigations has also requested the governor to give necessary directions to the State to provide facilities for those courses in Marathawada which are not available. The bench has also shown its consent with the argument put forward bythe counsel for the petitioner, Pradeep Deshmukh, that the director of technical education should take adequate care to publish any changes in the rules of admission to engineering colleges, six months before the admission commences.
