Mumbai boy 4th in SSC merit list

MUMBAI, June 29: Mumbai topper Sachin Dileep Dasnukar (94.13 per cent) of D S High School, Sion, had to rest content at fourth place, along with Akshay Gattani of Amravati in the State SSC examination this year while the honours were shared by two students from the Nagpur divisional board, with Kapil Bawiskar of S D Dhanwate Nagar Vidyalaya and Vishakha Gupta of Somalwar Madhyamik Shala, notching up an aggregate 95.06 per cent.For Kapil Bawiskar it was a double victory, topping the backward class (BC) category as well.Pune girl Zarrin M Ansari from Anglo Urdu Girls High School stood second in the state, scoring 94.80, while Prachi Vijay Tak of Bal Vidya Mandir High School, Parbhani (Aurangabad division), was placed third at 94.66 per cent. The pass percentage for the State was 48.83 (13.57 lakh candidates took the exam while only 6.62 lakh students passed), with Mumbai placed ahead of the eight divisional boards comprising the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. A total2.62 lakh students took the exam in Mumbai while 1.48 lakh were declared successful, aggregating a pass percentage of 56.51 which is a marginal improvement over last year's 55.01 per cent. Ironically, though Nagpur threw up two State toppers, it also secured the lowest pass percentage (38.98). Surprisingly, Latur disappointed this year, with the divisional topper, Arti Madhukar Pahinkar (94 per cent), placed a distant sixth in the State merit list. Latur has over the years consistently produced a stream of toppers in both the SSC and Higher Secondary Certificate examinations. Of the 87,594 students who took the exam from Latur, only 46,430 passed, keeping the pass percentage at 53.
