St Joseph's in semis

A fine hat-trick by Clive Cowenssaw St Joseph's (Mira Road) beat Fatima Khar 3-1 in the quarter-finals of the Guru Nanak football Cup organised by MDFA at the St Xavier's Ground, Parel.

Oswald Dias reduced the margin for Fatima. Joseph's now meet Cafe Royal in the semi-finals.

Ziauddin remembered

Glowing tributes were paid to former All India Football Federation (AIFF) president, M Khalifa Ziauddin in a condolence meeting held in his remebrance at the Cooperage, on Sunday.

Among those to speak on the occasion were thespian Dilip Kumar, Dr A Undre and Haroon rashid, editor, Inquilab. President of the western India Football Association (WIFA) and vice-president of AIFF announced that the WIFA super division league will now be called the Ziauddin League.

MCA extends date

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) had extended the last date for trasfer of registration of players from June 30 to July 6, 1998. Inclement weather was cited as the reason for the extension by Prakash Kelkar, Hon. Secretary (Registration), MCA.
