Central Bank trounce RCF

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
MUMBAI, July 5: Central Bank of India trounced Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers 4-2 in the WIFA-conducted Super Division football league at the Cooperage ground, today. Central Bank scored all their four goals before RCF struck twice late in the encounter.

Chris Fernandes (2), Valerian D'Souza and Caitano Fernandes netted for the bankmen. RCF got their goals through Abhisekh Yadav and Balin Singh.At the Goan Sports Association ground, Cross maidan, Rebel SC defeated Young Boys 2-1 in the Division I league. V Ryan and A Jose netted for Rebel and Shakeel Ansari reduced the margin.

Dadar XI C beat Allies 2-1 in the Division III league. N Prabhu, R Fernandes scored for the winners and Anthony D'Souza pulled back a goal for Allies.Taj Air Caterers drew 2-2 with Holy Cross. Savio Dias netted a brace for Caterers. Royston Dias and Clive Dias were on target for Holy Cross.

Chembur English held

Rhino held Chembur English to a goalless draw in the MDFA-conducted Harwood football league at the StXavier's ground, Parel, today.

St Joseph's (Mira Road) beat Cafe Royal 7-6 via the sudden-death in the semi-finals of the Guru Nanak Cup. Vineet Pulldetan, Diago D'Souza, Sunil Fernandes, Danny D'Souza, Clive Cowan, Agnelo Aranha and Vincent Mathias scored in that order for St Joseph's. Savio D'Souza (2), Vincent Gamre, Jennio Fialho, Stefan Saldanha and Manuel scored for the losers.A hat-trick by Bharat Pillay was the highlight of MLWB's (Worli) 3-0 win over Shushu Vikas in Pool A of the Division II league. Borivli Rangers beat Vidya Vikasni 3-0 in Pool B of the Division II. Agnelo Fernandes, Colin Miranda and Sameer Patankar scored.

Nasir Khan shines

Nasir Khan upset the applecart of defending champion Sajid Sayyed with a 25-0, 10-24, 25-11 triumph in the Open singles pre-quarter-finals of the Kshatriya Union Club carrom tournament, sponsored by Bank of India, Philips India, UBI and IOC, at the Vanmali Hall, Dadar, today.
