VADODARA, July 5: With a view to ensuring that no child remains without education in Gujarat by the turn of the century, the State Government has decided to grant admissions to first standard classes in all municipal schools without calling for birth certificates. Admissions will be given to children above five years of age.The Vadodara Municipal School Board has implemented the system and has already given 278 admissions to students from backward classes in three schools in the Kishanwadi area. According to School Board chairman Kishan Sheth, the admissions are being given now as part of a novel `Vidyarthi Pravesh Zumbesh Saptah'.
Speaking at a function before the admissions process began, Sheth said the Board would ensure that adequate number of teachers is recruited to match the new batch of students admitted without age-proof. There are 134 municipal schools in Vadodara catering to education needs of some 61,000 students.
Referring to complaints that municipal school teachers had to often provide administrative services, he said it would be ensured that teachers were not engaged in any other works except teaching. He said the Board had represented the problem to the State Government and expected a favourable response.
