Gardens to remain open for girls
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation will keep its parks and gardens open exclusively for girls for four hours for five days beginning Tuesday, according to a press release issued here on Sunday. The arrangement has been made considering the `gaurivrat' festival. Men are banned entry during this period in Lal baug, Jubileebaug, Suryanarayan baug, Shanker Tekri baug, Karelibaug, Akota baug, Danteshwar Udyan, gardens in Navayard, Harinagar from 3 to 7 pm and during `jagran'.

PGDBM forms
Application forms for the one-year post-graduate diploma course in Business Management are available from the Commerce faculty, M S University. The forms, costing Rs 200 each, have to be submitted by Saturday. Admission test would be held the following day, according to a release by course director B S Patel. The fee of the two-semester course is Rs 2000 per semester.

Bicycle rally
The Bahujan Samaj party will take out a bicycle rally from the Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue, GEB traffic circle on Wednesday to protest against the rising prices of essential commodities. City party president Fulchand Parmar stated that the party will protest against the hike of groundnut oil from Rs 35 to Rs 55 per kg. The members will also protest against the hike in the school tuition fees, which they said would compel many parents to withdraw their wards from the schools, leading to school dropouts and child labour.

New dean
N Pradhan, has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Education and Psychology, M S University for the year 1998-99, according to a varsity release.

Art workshop
Art Underground digital Art gallery and studio has organised an `Experimental digital art workshop for Amateur women artists' in its office from July 7 to September 4. Interested candidates should contact the office at Landmark complex, Race Course Circle or contact on telephone number 327377.

Protest rally
Workers of Amletha village in Narmada district have organised a rally on Monday to protest against the Gujarat Spinner's Limited (GSL) alleged anti workers' stance. In a press release, People's Union for Civil Liberties secretary Dhirubhai Mistry said that the National Commission for Human Rights had sought a report from the Narmada district Collector regarding the violation of workers' human rights in Amletha.

Honoured
SURAT: Nirmala C H, assistant teacher of Symga English High School, Surat, has been awarded the prestigious CCRT Teacher's award, 1996. The award was given by President K R Narayanan on June 29 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Ten teachers from different states were also awarded.

Dissertation prize
Hutoxi Wadia, former lecturer of the English department of the South Gujarat University, has been awarded this year's American Studies Research Centre (ASRC) Dissertation prize for his PhD thesis. The prize is for the best thesis on a subject which relates to American Studies.
