Private role likely in housing sector
The Union urban development ministry is working out modalities to involve private builders, including NRIs, in the construction of houses for poor and low income group people. Stating this, Union urban development minister Ram Jethmalani said housing was being given the same importance as infrastructure in order to meet the growing demand for dwelling units.

PFC seeks Rs 250 cr loan
State-owned funding agency Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has sought a Rs 250 crore loan from State Bank of India (SBI), Punjab National Bank and Oriental Bank. The corporation has already sought Rs 100 crore as a fresh line of credit from SBI. This amount, which forms part of the Rs 700 crore domestic fund raising exercise of PFC in 1998-99, would be disbursed to state electricity boards (SEBs) and power utilities during the current fiscal.

Manipulation in software scrips continues
The excessive speculation in software shares is now threatening to go out of control. Even as the stock markets and investors are struggling to get out of the recent scam created by erstwhile big bull Harshad Mehta, the price rigging exercise in software shares continues with speculators getting a helping hand from the stock exchange managements.
