MUMBAI, July 8: Two elderly persons committed suicide on Tuesday, adding to the current spurt in suicides by senior citizens in the city.In the first incident, 59-year-old Murari Sakapure jumped from the second floor of the Mahatma Gandhi hospital at Parel at around 11.30 pm on Tuesday. He had been admitted there since June 26 for treatment for asthma.
Sakapure's son Prabhakar said his father was brought from Latur for treatment, but failed to respond. On Tuesday, he told another patient that he was going to the toilet. However, when he failed to return, the nurse ordered a search of the premises. Municipal guards found Sakapure lying on the ground below the building. He succumbed to his neck and skull injuries within an hour.The police said they suspect no foul play. In the second incident, 78-year-old Hiralal Keshav Pandya jumped from the sixth floor of BIT municipal chawl, Mazagaon at.
Pandya, a resident of Palwadi near Mazagaon court, had been ill for some time, and was discharged from J Jhospital a couple of days ago. Pandya's relatives suspect that he killed himself because he could not bear his physical ailments any more.
