Court direction sought on abortion of `pregnant' girl

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, July 9: The Madras High Court has admitted a writ petition seeking the State Government to arrange for abortion on a pregnant teenager, allegedly made pregnant while she was an inmate of an orphanage in Chennai.

The petition has also sought for an investigation into the alleged `sex scandal' in the privately-operated orphanage.

In his petition, admitted in the High Court by a division bench comprising Justices V S Sirpurkar and K Govindarajan, a lawyer, has asked the court to direct the superintendent of the Government Rehabilitation Home for Juvenile Delinquents, to give appropriate medical treatment to `abort the foetus in the womb' of the victim, Kokila, a 13-year-old.
