Domestic pressures ground Tatas again
The Foreign Investment Promotion Board's (FIPB) decision to defer discussions on the clearance to the proposed Tata Airlines is a clear indication that the government continues to bow to pressure from other domestic players including Indian Airlines. This makes it the second time in two months that a decision on the Rs 1,475 crore proposal has been deferred on some flimsy ground or the other.

I was misquoted, says Giri
V Mohini Giri, chairperson of the National Commission for Women, said on Friday that she had been misquoted in a section of the press on the conduct of inmates of a working women's hostel in Orissa. She categorically denied having made any statement to the effect that 50% of inmates of a working women's hostel in Bhubaneswar were into prostitution.

Former Union minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed has demanded an all-party fact finding team for Jammu and Kashmir to assess the security situation which he said has deteriorated sharply ever since the BJP-led Government assumed office at the Centre. Minister accused of fraud
A writ petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court alleging fraud against Revenue Minister Narayan Rane in the transfer of 150 acres of land in Nashik city in violation of a Supreme Court order on such properties. The petition points out that Rane passed an order reverting the land to its original owners though it was reserved for development of the Maharashtra Engineering Research Institute (MERI).
