BEL to manufacture Drishti 1064
Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), a public sector undertaking in the field of professional electronics under the Ministry of Defence, will shortly be undertaking the manufacture and marketing of medical laser equipment known as Drishti 1064 at its Pune unit.

Drishti 1064 is used for the photo disruption application in opthalmology. Drishti 1064 was designed by a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) laboratory, namely the Defence Science Centre, Delhi. The occurrence of cataract in the eye is very common in India. The most commonly used cure is to replace the eye lens with an artificial plastic lens. However, in a majority of cases, a thin opaque film forms on the rear surface of the artificial lens from six to 24 months after the implant. Drishti 1064 is an opthalmic laser which is used to rupture this film and restore eyesight by a process of photo disruption known as Posterior Capsulotomy.

ISO 9001 for Aar-Em
Aar-Em-Electronics, a Pune-based manufacturer of the Champion brand of Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) has been certified ISO 9001 by TUV Bayen for design, development, production, installation and servicing of UPS.

Aar-em's current manufacturing range includes line interactive UPS systems ranging from 425 VA to 2200 VA. The on-line UPS range from 2KVA to 3 KVA.

Plant rejuvenator from Searle
Ra Pi Gro, a biological plant rejuvenator to stimulate yield and crop quality by improving the expression of the genetic potential of the crop was launched by Searle India in Pune.

According to a company statement issued here, the product has been found promising for various crops such as cotton, rice, vegetables, fruit, ornamental plants and tea plantations.

Searle India, a group company of the Rs 6400 crore RPG group company and licensee of G D Searle Co of USA.

DigiForms from BTC
Digiforms, India's first indigenous forms-processing software was recently launched by Boshu Technics Corporation (BTC).

Traditionally the transfer of data from a hand-filled form into a database is done through manual data entry with the attendant risks of errors and delays. The DigiForms software, which uses a Neural Network Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) engine, offers an economic alternative that not only eliminates the data entry and processing errors but also speeds up the process immensely.

BTC is a boutique software company specialising in document management systems. IT has also designed and developed DigiOffice 2000, that has enterprise-wide document imaging and management system as some of its features.

Lubricare ties up with Japanese firm
Tokyo Buhin Kogyo Co. Ltd has recently agreed to set up a joint venture (JV) company with Lubricare Private Limited, a local manufacturer of water and oil pumps for engines, for the production and sales of water pumps and oil pumps for cars and vehicles in India.

Rs 50 million capital has been invested in the joint venture company to start the production plant towards the end of this year. Within five years they are targetting to reach the production volume of 1.5 million pieces of pumps for car and truck engine application, mainly for original equipment.

Co-branded credit card
Oriental Bank of Commerce and Citibank have joined hands to announce the launch of the Oriental Bank co-branded credit card in partnership with MasterCard International. The new card will have a unique design featuring Oriental Bank of Commerce, Citibank and Master logos. It offers photograph and non-photograph options.
