Considering rigs are vital in oil drilling operations of ONGC, K L Sharma, an assistant engineer at ONGC, Western Region, has nurtured an interesting hobby. Inspired by a thermocol sheet model of the rig Sagar Gaurav at Off Shore Project, Bombay, Sharma makes working models of rigs from thermocol as well as from aluminum and mild steel. He makes wooden patterns first before going in for aluminum models. The various indigenous models that he has developed include a Sagar Shakti model and a mobile Desert Rig Model E-076-13 in metal base which can be operated by electricity.
