CHANDIGARH, July 12: Manoj Kumar, 23, a resident of Sector 44 here was allegedly drugged while he was on his way back to the City from New Delhi and robbed of all his belongings, including gold jewellery and more than Rs 5,500.Kumar, a student of Mechanical Engineering at Young Men's Christains Association in Faridabad, told Newsline that the incident occurred on the night of July 3. ``At exactly 6.50 pm, I boarded a Haryana Roadways bus from the Delhi ISBT. The last thing I remember is that we had stopped at Kurukshetra from where the bus started again at 10.10 pm. After a few minutes I fell asleep and woke up at the General Hospital in Sector 16 the next morning,'' he said.
Manoj told the police that on his way to Chandigarh, he met two persons and became friendly with one of them who identified himself as Surinder, a garments merchant from Ludhiana. "He was well dressed and wearing a lot of gold jewellery. When the bus stopped at Kurukshetra, I went to an STD booth to make a phone call. When I returned, he told me that he had bought a fruit drink for me. I drank that and got into the bus. I don't remember when I reached here, my parents tell me that I had come by a rickshaw the next morning and I was in bad shape. All my money, a gold chain, a ring, my watch and my briefcase were gone. The briefcase also contained my training report. I think that man looted me,'' Manoj said.
The youth's family said that he had to be admitted to the General Hospital in Sector 16. The medical report pointed out that his was a case of suspected poisoning and that he had ``remained unconcious for a few hours and was later confused and disoriented.'' The police have lodged a complaint but no case has been registered so far.
