Addressing a press conference here, he said that the encouragement given by the Karunanidhi government to the banned pro-Pakistani militant outfits like Al Umma and Al Jehad made it a fit case for the Centre to invoke Article 356.

According to him, the situation in Tamil Nadu had degenerated to such an extent that activists of the banned organisations were openly claiming their association with the DMK government.

He recalled that even during former prime minister Chandrasekhar's regime in 1991, the Karunanidhi government was dismissed for patronising the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) activities. "While the LTTE network was broken by the subsequent AIADMK government, Karunanidhi started pampering the frontal organisations of the ISI in the country," he alleged.

Describing the Andhra Pradeshgovernment headed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as a "patriotic government", he appreciated the state government's efforts to curb the ISI activities.

The VHP leader said that the various demands putforth by AIADMK general secretary Jayalalitha were detrimental to the stability of the BJP-led coalition government at the Centre. "People have voted for a stable government and they do not want elections again. If Jaya continues to press her demands, she will lose credibility among the people," he said.

On the construction of temple at the controversial site in Ayodhya, Singhal indicated that it might take two more years for the work to begin as more than 60,000 cubic feet of stone was yet to be sculpted. Moreover, the dharmacharyas would take a decision on commencement of work.
