Re-hearing of Jaya cases from today

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CHENNAI, July 13: The Madras High Court will commence re-hearing the arguments on the writ petitions by former chief minister J Jayalalitha and her erstwhile cabinet colleagues, challenging the appointment of three special judges by the state government to try corruption cases against them, here on Tuesday.

The re-hearing follows the elevation of Justice D Raju as the chief justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. The chief justice of the Madras High Court M S Liberhan and Justice Raju constituted the bench which had heard the arguments pertaining to the writ petitions.

On February 4, the bench reserved its verdict on the the writ and a single judge stayed the trial in all cases against Jayalalitha and referred the matter to a larger bench in June.
