PUNE, July 13: With a sizable 35,580 students vying for admission to 32,200 seats at standard XI science, arts and commerce faculties in 101 colleges, the Deputy Director of Education (Pune division) has allotted 19 additional divisions for science and six for commerce streams. The selection lists will be displayed at the colleges on Tuesday (July 14) with admissions to be processed from July 15-17.Speaking with media persons today, V G Joshi, Deputy Director of Education and chairman of the Standard XI Centralised Admission Committee said that efforts have been made to ensure that all the applicants obtain admission, with standard XI classes now slated to commence from July 20. While a total of 60 forms have been rejected admission, Joshi said that the rush for science and commerce (English medium) streams led the directorate to introduce additional divisions in colleges to accommodate over 2,000 students.
The centralised admission process has ensured that 50 per cent students have been allotted colleges of their first choice. There were 13,416 applicants for admission to 10,340 science stream seats while 7,400 commerce (English) seats had 9,550 applicants. Out of 6,900 seats for admission to commerce (Marathi) there were 5,713 applications while 1,200 arts (English) seats, there were 1,021 applications. A total of 6,360 arts (Marathi) seats had 5,880 applications, S Z Khateeb, Assistant Director of Education said.
There were 2,800 applications which had offered preferences for both science stream and commerce (English medium) faculty. However the clear picture of vacancies at colleges after allotting additional divisions will be available only in the last week of July. A total of 192 students who had applied for admission under the special reservation category have been denied the same due to lack of certificates from competent authorities and have been accommodated under the general category. Four applications to the science stream were rejected as they did not fulfil the eligibility criteria while 55 repeater students were denied admission.
The first selection list will be displayed between 10.30 am and 5 pm at colleges while admissions will be given from July 15 to 17. The second waiting list will be put up and admissions to students will be given from July 18-20. Admissions to students figuring in the third waiting list will be given on July 21. Khateeb has also directed college principals to submit the vacancy position and the admissions given directly after July 21 to August 31 to the Deputy Director of Education's office.
