SURAT, July 13: In a case of irresponsible behaviour by the Ichhapore police who allegedly refused to lodge a retired forest officer's complaint, after his son was hit by a speeding car, were forced to register it only after the intervention of Inspector General of Police I G Mathur.According to information, Naseer, a 24-year-old engineer and son of retired IFS officer R S Pathan, who did a commendable job while being posted here in the district between 1990 and 1995, was hit by a car on the Hazira road on Friday afternoon.
Naseer lost consciousness immediately after the accident and was rushed to Adarsh Hospital with severe internal head injuries, R S Pathan said, adding that his son was later shifted to New Civil Hospital on Saturday and then to the Mahavir Hospital, where he slipped into a coma.
Though he approached the Ichhapore police, to lodge a complaint, they allegedly refused to register it, R S Pathan alleged. According to the father, the car, GJ 5 N 8027, belonged to a doctor working in the Essar company and added that it was because of some ``internal understanding'' between the Ichhapore police officers and the company officials that his complaint was not registered immediately.
Pathan then approached IGP Mathur, who intervened and asked the police to take the father's statement, after which the police registered his complaint, on the phone; without even asking the complainant to visit the police station.
No arrests have yet been made in the case.
