Tata took lead in the 30th minute through CT Fernandes, totally outsmarting Sandip Sawant, ONGC goalkeeper.

ONGC came back strongly in the second-half and got their equaliser in the 56th minute when Joe Dias' pass was neatly collected by Govind Tandel who went on to beat Clarence Robert, the Tata goalkeeper.

With the equaliser, ONGC attacked with renewed vigour. Their efforts finally paid when Tandel scored the match winner in the 63th minute.

In a first division encounter, played earlier in the day, Jai Ambe defeated Miners 2-1. Rakesh Kulwankar and Umesh Chougale scored a goal each for the Jai Ambe while Kishore Poojary reduced the margin for losers.
