Shanta Kumar informed the Union Defence Minister that these hand-woven and tough blankets are produced by the Gaddis and that their economy mainly depends on the wool obtained from sheep.

He informed if these blankets were introduced in the Army, it would give an impetus to the small industry of the tribal Gaddis of the state, besides providing cheaper and more durable blankets to the Army.

Fernandes assured Shanta Kumar that Army would consider this proposal sympathetically.
