NASHIK, July 19: An industrial peace committee instituted to go into allegations of ill-treatment of staff and employment of minor children on the Nicholas Breeders (India) poultry farm has ruled that there has been no harassment of female employees by the management.The guardian Minister of Nashik, Babanrao Gholap, announced the formation of the panel led by the Collector on April 12, after the farm at Vani Khurd near Dindori became embroiled in a management-employee crisis following a police firing incident and self-immolation by a female staff.
The panel comprising of representatives from the industry, labour and government nominees headed by district Collector Amitabh Joshi, found that of the 32 child labourers of the farm produced by the CITU, only eight were found to be minors. The company has been asked to deposit Rs 25,000 in the name of each such worker and give them preference in employment on attaining maturity.
The company has also been asked to pay minimum wages from Rs 35 to Rs 37 per dayto its workers, without gender dicrimination, and that they be given all facilities under the labour law. Also, female employees would be entitled for maternity leave of one month.
The poultry farm was the scene of police firing on February 8 when workers attacked the management and policemen. One person was injured in the firing. The workers were protesting against the arrest of 26 of their colleagues on charges of assaulting superiors.
