Hindustan overcome IAF

NEW DELHI, July 24: Formidable Hindustan Club overcame a fighting Indian Air Force (New Delhi) 2-1 in Group A match of the Delhi Soccer Association-SAIL Senior Division Football League championship at Ambedkar Stadium.

In a fast paced match, IAF had an edge over their opponents from the beginning itself. They drew first blood on a move initiated from left-flank by RS Rawat on which striker SKA Hossen scored. Thereafter, Hindustan lads through medios Mohd. Mobin and Walid Rahim made in roads in opponents' goal-area but inside-left HS Rawat failed to utilise the opportunities and missed a sitter.

After break, Hindustan took charge and dominated the proceedings. They kept on pressing for a goal and their efforts paid in the 45th minute when out-side left Neeraj Chaudhary equalised while striker Amarjit Singh Sahani netted the winner in the 51st minute.

Despite the defeat, Indian Air Force have entered in the Super League by getting 19 points from 11 matches. Hindustan Club is leading Group A by securing 28 points from 10 matches and are through to the Super League. They play their last match against former league champions Shastri Club on Sunday.

In another match, Indian Air Force (Palam)'s encounter with Frontiers ended in a goalless draw in Group B.

IAF (Palam) stood at the bottom by collecting four points in ten matches while Frontiers have finished their engagements by getting nine points from ten matches.

Meanwhile, the League Sub-committee has fixed its meeting tomorrow to decide the fate of the protest lodged by South India against Frontiers Club for fielding un-registered players against them. In this match Fronteirs defeated South India 2-0.

At Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, Hans Club were held to a golless draw by Youngsters in Group B. Hans completed their engagements by getting 14 points in 10 match while Youngsters have collected 12 points in 10 matches.
