The art of river rafting
Have you noticed how the best river rafters in this country are our politicians. Give them a river and they will float down it until it becomes a good enough controversy. The controversy will then be allowed to swell until it assumes the proportions of a crisis.

The Damodar is dying
Fish and frogs die by the thousands in the left bank irrigation canal of the Durgapur Barrage of the Damodar Valley Corporation. Paddy cultivation on 240 ha of land along the canal lost. 1978 Large number of cattleheads die after drinking water from the canal. 1983 About 500 cattleheads die and 8,000 quintals of processed crop are destroyed because of contamination.

The hurt and the glory
The human mind is so fickle. It may suffer fools gladly, but when it comes to failure, it seldom hesitates to pillory people. One win, and all is forgiven. One failure, and the country cracks the whip. Equations change by the day, depending on whether one wins or loses.
