ISRO programme to help boost agricultural output
Farmers in the country could decide on what crop to select for a season and also the possible yield -- all based on data beamed from a series of uniquely-placed remote-sensing satellites. A constellation of Indian satellites will study the colour of land and ocean to help boost agricultural output and fishing yields.

Fall from grace for Indian scientists
Would you believe it? At the height of the hoopla last November over President Clinton's expected visit to India, a White House advance party did a reconnaissance of Bangalore's Indian Institute of Science (IISc), checking out the architecture, auditorium, acoustics etc. The Prez apparently wanted to address the eminences grises of India's much-acclaimed brain power and the fecund environs of the IITs and IISc was thought to be the ideal place.

Quota rule had better reign 96 years ago
While the rest of the country is engaged in an autopsy of the Women's Reservation Bill, the erstwhile princely city of Kolhapur is decking up for a rally celebrating the 96th anniversary of a 1902 reservation policy adopted by its social reformer ruler, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj.
