Power regulatory body formed to fix tariff
A Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), headed by S L Rao, has been constituted by the government to fix tariffs for generating companies and provide for transparent subsidies.
Enron drops out of TN project
Power utility Enron has dropped its plan to put up a power project in Tamil Nadu, as the state electricity board refused to give escrow account facility to the project.
Inflation touches 136-week high of 8.08%
The annual rate of inflation touched a 136-week high of 8.08% for the week ended July 11 -- the highest inflation since November 18, 1995 -- as pressure on prices of primary articles continued unabated.
