NEW DELHI, Aug 5: Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah arrived here late last night after a two-week holiday in London and straightaway got into the act of familiarising himself with the new ``ground situation'' in his troubled State. He, however, is yet to reach Jammu & Kashmir. For the better part of the day, Farooq made himself busy in New Delhi by meeting top Central leaders, including Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee.
Till evening, he had held closed-door discussions with Vajpayee, Home Minister L K Advani and Defence Minister George Fernandes.
The meeting with Advani lasted barely 10 minutes as the latter was scheduled to appear in Parliament. ``It was a brief meeting during which Farooq was briefed about the latest situation in Kashmir,'' quipped a North Block official.
Sources close to Farooq said the chief minister, once he is in Srinagar (he is likely to be there tomorrow morning), would get cracking on his drive against militants. ``He is scheduled to visit the massacre sites. But the decision in this regard will be taken only after he reaches Srinagar,'' disclosed a State official who is currently in New Delhi.
A detailed discussion with the Himachal Pradesh government, in the wake of recent killing of 35 people in Chamba district by the Kashmir militants, is also on the cards.
