MUMBAI, August 5: Three people were killed and two others including a three-year-old child injured when the wall on the first floor of a building in Mulund collapsed on their hutments today afternoon.According to police and fire officials the incident occurred when the wall of the two-storeyed building at Amar Nagar, Khindipada in the north eastern suburb of the city, fell on the adjoining slum-dwellings at around 1.15 pm.
Police identified the dead as Banwarilal Choudhary (35), his wife Sumabai (25) and another woman Usha Vishwanath Ingle (35). A three-year-old boy Ravi Banwarilal Choudhary and Meena Ingle (20) were admitted to the Mulund General Hospital and are reported to be out of danger.
Rescue personnel are still searching for the four-year-old son of Usha Ingle, Chandrakant, who is believed to be buried inside the debris.
According to residents, a complaint had been lodged with the local police by the Ingle family over cracks on the wall of their neighbouring building. A criminalcomplaint has been registered against six residents of the building by the Mulund police. This is the second time that a building has collapsed in the city in the last one week. Three days ago a seven-storeyed building Govind Towers collapsed at Bandra, killing 35 residents and injuring 21 people.
