VADODARA, Aug 5: A couple of councillors of the ruling BJP in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation are reported to have expressed discontent over demolitions carried out by the administration and demanded that a clear policy be framed. Sources said the issue was discussed in the party meeting held on Wednesday to discuss the agenda for the General Board meeting, slated for August 10.Some of the councillors are believed to have said that the VMC should decide whether it intended to clear encroachments on the road margin, road line or unauthorised constructions in parking slots.
A councillor even alleged that some officers had vested interests in effecting demolitions.
Sources said names for the two Standing Committee posts which have fallen vacant following resignation of Mayor Bharti Vyas and Deputy Mayor Dinesh Chokshi will be decided prior to the Board meeting. The item is on the Board meeting's agenda. Names of persons to replace chairmen of various civic committees who have made to the Sanding Committee are also likely to be decided.
New DYMCs: The VMC has planned to appoint three new deputy municipal commissioners. According to sources, a proposal to appoint the DyMCs in the zones is likely to be sent as a supplementary agenda in the Standing Committee meeting on Thursday.
Officers transferred: The VMC on Wednesday transferred four officers of the ranks of deputy engineers. According to Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) H S Patel, deputy engineer in ward number 2 Prafull Bhavsar has been transferred in the head office to look after drainage and sewerage project. Deputy town development officer P V Majumdar has replaced Bhavsar. Deputy engineer of ward number 10 C Patel has been posted as deputy town development officer. Project in-charge of drainage and sewerage Makwana has been posted as deputy engineer in ward 10. Transfers have been effected for administrative reasons.
Constructions razed: The encroachment removal squad on Wednesday razed unauthorised construction in the form of compound walls, fencings and cabins from over 2,500 meter land in the margin area of town planning scheme in Makarpura area. The encroachment was removed from opposite Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School.
Medical camps: More than 750 persons suffering from minor ailments have been given medical attention during camps conducted by the VMC from August 1 to 3 in different parts of the city. Over 700 chlorine tablets have been distributed and 5,026 houses surveyed.
