Bihar flood toll rises to 81

PATNA, August 6: The overall flood situation in 22 districts of north Bihar worsened today with 13 more deaths reported during the past 24 hours taking the toll to 81, official sources said. Bihar governor Sunder Singh Bhandari, who undertook an aerial survey of the flood affected districts today, said he would submit a report to the Centre. Standing crops in 4.65 lakh hectares in 5,033 villages, valued at Rs 66.20 crore, have been damaged. The Central Water Commission report said, the Ghaghra, Burhi Gandak, Bagmati, Kamabalan, Kosi, Mahananda, and Adhwara rivers were flowing above the danger level.Copyright © 1998 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
