Shastri, Mughals fight to draw

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, August 6: Former league champions Shastri Club were held to a goalless draw by Mughals Club in a Group B match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL Senior Division Super League Football Championship at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium here today.

In an evenly contested match, both the teams had their share of chances, but failed to utilise them. While Mughals, who had an edge over their rivals, in the initial proceedings of the game, their forwards Rajesh Arya and Bappa Naskar wasted easy opportunities. Moh. Atiq and Hisham Ali were the culprits for the Shastri Club, who have won the DSA league four times before.

The absence of few regular star players like Emmunel, Bernad Job and Gyenderaranjan from CISF and former international Bhupend Thakur and Imran Ali of Punjab National Bank due to their institutional problems made Shastri Club look a bit depleted lot, but their mid-fielders Nadir and Dinesh did well in the middle and made quite a few positive moves. But the Shastri strikers did not rise to the occassion.

The Mughals mid-field was bit disorganised, but they did well when it came to the counter attacks. They had their rivals struggling on more than one occasions, but could not keep their cool once they found their way into the penalty area.

Shastri's Dinesh and Nadir were shown yellow cards for dangerous tackling.
